Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Activist Sanam Javed Re-Arrested Shortly After Release

In a dramatic twist, Sanam Javed, a prominent activist of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was re-arrested shortly after being cleared of charges by an Islamabad court. She had just been released on Sunday following the court’s decision in her favor but was apprehended again after visiting her lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq’s office.

Confirming the re-arrest on social media, Ashfaq mentioned that Islamabad police had taken Ms. Javed into custody. He emphasized the need for cooperation with law enforcement and stated that they complied without any resistance. Mian Ali Ashfaq announced, “Sanam Javed has been re-arrested by Islamabad police. Our full cooperation with the authorities reflects our commitment to lawful conduct.” The PTI activist’s re-arrest has sparked inquiries and apprehensions among party supporters and the public at large.

The local court has dismissed the case against PTI activist Sanam Javed. Duty Magistrate Malik Imran delivered the reserved verdict on Sanam Javed’s remand.

Earlier, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), led by Justice Asjad Javed Gharal, had acquitted the PTI activist in the Gujranwala case.

Sanam Javed had filed a plea challenging her physical remand in the Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), alleging that she was being unfairly targeted in politically motivated cases.

She argued that she had been repeatedly arrested in new cases immediately after being released from previous ones. The PTI activist’s petition claimed that the legal actions against her were politically motivated and requested the court to dismiss the case.

The public prosecutor countered by stating that Ms. Javed was implicated based on statements linking her to incidents of arson on May 9, which are currently under investigation. Despite these claims, the court ruled in favor of Sanam Javed, acquitting her from the Gujranwala case.
