iPhone 17 and ‘iPhone 17 Air’ Rumored to Come with 120Hz ProMotion Displays

Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants recently informed MacRumors that both the standard iPhone 17 and a lighter version, dubbed the “iPhone 17 Air,” will feature ProMotion technology. This will enable both models to achieve a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and video playback.

ProMotion will also allow the displays to adjust to more power-efficient refresh rates. For instance, the iPhone 13 Pro models can drop to 10Hz, while the iPhone 14 Pro through iPhone 16 Pro models can reduce to as low as 1Hz, supporting an always-on display that shows Lock Screen elements even when the device is locked. It remains unclear if the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will have similar capabilities.

In contrast, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature 60Hz displays.

Young has a strong track record for accurate information regarding Apple’s display technologies, previously revealing the larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, respectively.

Apple is anticipated to announce the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.
