Instagram’s Threads web version is here

Meta has just launched an upgraded web app for Threads, and it’s bringing some exciting new features. Now, you can not only view profiles but also post content, engage with other users’ posts, and scroll through your feed. Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, announced that this web version is now accessible to everyone.

Initially, Threads on the web was quite limited. You could only look at profiles and couldn’t even like or share posts, even though the buttons were there. Clicking them would simply prompt you to download the mobile app. However, the new desktop web interface closely resembles the mobile app, with a few minor differences like navigation icons at the top and a button in the bottom-left corner to switch between the “For You” and “Following” feeds.

With the web version live, many are curious about which features will be added next. Users have been requesting content search functionality, allowing them to search for specific posts and hashtags to discover new content, a common feature on platforms like Instagram and Twitter.

One feature that might not be coming soon is direct messaging (DMs). Mosseri is hesitant to introduce yet another inbox into users’ lives. However, he has hinted at the possibility of integrating Instagram DMs into Threads. On a positive note, post-editing features are in development, so Threads users won’t have to wait too long for an edit button.

Another noteworthy addition is automatic translation for Threads posts. Posts will now be translated based on the language they are written in and the language settings of the viewer. If you come across a post in a different language and a translation is available in your language, you can simply tap the translation button at the bottom right of the post or reply to see it in your preferred language. This feature aims to make Threads more accessible and user-friendly for a wider audience.
