Pakistan and India Could Face Each Other Twice: Likely Schedule of Upcoming Cricket Matches

The highly anticipated match between arch-rivals Pakistan and India in Kandy, Sri Lanka, as part of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, left fans feeling disappointed as it was called off due to rain. The weather played spoilsport, but there are still more exciting clashes to look forward to in the tournament.

In the remaining matches of the Asia Cup, there’s a chance for Pakistan and India to face off twice, first in the Super 4 round and potentially in the final. However, India has an important task ahead of them: they must avoid defeat against Nepal in their final group stage game to secure their spot in the Super 4 round.

The rivalry between these two traditional cricket powerhouses will also extend to the ICC World Cup 2023, set to take place in India. Here’s a schedule of the upcoming Pakistan-India matches:

  • September 10: Asia Cup Super Four – Colombo – 2:30 pm (PST)
  • September 17: Asia Cup Final – Colombo – 2:30 pm (PST)
  • October 14: ICC World Cup 2023 – Ahmedabad – 1:30 pm (PST)

It’s worth noting that the Asia Cup 2023 is co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka and runs from August 30 to September 17. Due to security concerns, all the matches of the Asia Cup will not be held in Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided not to send their team to Pakistan, resulting in a split venue arrangement. Pakistan shares Group A with Nepal and India, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. Four matches will be played in Pakistan, with the remaining nine, including the final, taking place in Sri Lanka.

Over the years, Pakistan and India have engaged in intense and thrilling cricket clashes on the world stage, with India holding the upper hand historically. However, in the last edition of the tournament, Babar Azam’s Pakistan team staged a remarkable comeback, delivering a nearly flawless performance in Dubai to secure their first-ever World Cup victory over India.

The Cricket World Cup 2023 will feature a round-robin format, with all participating teams facing each other in a total of 45 league matches. The top four teams from the league stage will qualify for the semifinals, scheduled to be held in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16, with reserve days in place to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances. Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed season ahead.
