Masses capacity at the Australian Open to be increased for the finals

Masses capacity at the Australian Open will be expanded to 65 per cent, with coordinators confident of attracting a record group to watch Dylan Alcott’s wheelchair final on Thursday.

Competition chief Craig Tiley said fans holding ground passes would have the option to enter Rod Laver Arena on Thursday afternoon to watch the new Australian of the Year.

Gunning for an eighth Australian Open wheelchair title in his last competition before retiring, Alcott takes on second-cultivated Dutchman Sam Schroder in the final.

With the doubles semi-final including Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis likewise changed from Kia Arena to Rod Laver Arena and open to ground pass holders, competition chief Craig Tiley said he trusted they could draw in a guard crowd.

The “Special Ks”, who have demonstrated a group top choice, will be in action before Alcott’s match.
