Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project declared unlawful: LHC

On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court declared the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) illegal while declaring a decision on the petitions against the project.

The petitions, recorded by advocates Sheraz Zaka, Ahmad Rafay Alam and others for the farmers, challenged the mode and way of the land obtaining procedures embraced by the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) for RRUDP.

The court additionally enunciated Section 4 of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (correction) Ordinance 2021 unlawful and illegal.

The referenced area is inconvenient to Article 144 of the Constitution of Pakistan, it said.

“Agricultural land can be procured just when there is an appropriate legitimate system for it however, the land for RRUDP acquired through an infringement of Land Acquisition Act, 1894,” the court commented.

“Lahore and Sheikhupura failed to comply with the law in the land obtaining,” the court said.

The LHC said while reporting the decision that since RRUDP’s groundbreaking strategy is the fundamental document, every one of the plans ought to be under the end-all strategy according to the law.

“Consequently, any plan worked upon without [being included in] the all-inclusive strategy is unlawful,” the court said.

Offered the viewpoint that RUDA’s revision mandate has neglected to satisfy the protected prerequisites, the court guided the Authority to return the cash it had obtained from the public authority within two months.
