PM Urges a Shift in Political Priorities

In a clear response to the PTI’s politics of agitation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Sunday that the public has rejected “politics of chaos” in favor of sound economic policies to tackle inflation and improve living standards. Speaking from London, where he paused before attending the UN General Assembly in New York, he emphasized that the people want solutions to their economic issues.

Shehbaz urged a shift in political priorities, arguing that the immediate need is to enhance the economic conditions of citizens rather than focus on rallies and political gatherings. “We will hold rallies in 2028; right now, we must work hard to fulfill our commitments to the people,” he said, alluding to PTI’s recent public meetings in Islamabad and Lahore.

The Prime Minister linked economic recovery to political stability, warning that chaos could hinder efforts to provide public relief. He praised citizens for promoting political stability as essential for economic growth and called for national unity to ensure a brighter financial future and relief from inflation. He stressed the need for collaboration among political parties, institutions, and provinces to address ongoing economic and security challenges.

On the economic front, Shehbaz expressed optimism, noting that inflation has returned to single digits and the overall economic situation is improving.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is reportedly “withstanding pressure from multiple fronts” to mediate between the government and opposition on various issues. Despite criticism, he has consistently issued production orders for arrested members of parliament to ensure their participation in legislative sessions.

Officials highlighted Sadiq’s handling of the recent arrests of PTI members following a rally in Sangjani, noting his efforts to ensure dignified treatment for detained members by designating Parliament Lodges as sub-jails. His balanced approach has fostered dialogue between law enforcement and political leaders, helping to prevent further escalation.

Amid allegations from the opposition PTI that he acted in a partisan manner regarding reserved seats and a controversial ‘Constitutional Package,’ Sadiq’s role remains pivotal in navigating the political landscape.
