Bilawal Declares an End to the Era of ‘Selected Ones’

In a bold address in Mithi, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari took a swipe at political rivals PTI and PML-N on Monday. Blaming Mehngai League and Tehreek-i-Inteshar for inflation and unrest, he promised a surprise in the Feb 8 elections.

Bhutto-Zardari unveiled plans for a Mazdoor Card to ease citizens’ woes under PPP rule. Despite the Election Commission not releasing the poll schedule, he expressed confidence in a Feb 8 victory, fueled by public passion.

Channeling the spirit of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, Bhutto-Zardari echoed the relevance of the ‘Roti, Kapra aur Makaan’ slogan. Tharparkar featured prominently in PPP’s 2024 manifesto, lauding the district’s transformation.

He credited the Thar Coal project, a dream of his mother, for turning Tharparkar into a model with robust road infrastructure. The project, he claimed, generated employment for 20,000 locals.

Addressing economic challenges, Bhutto-Zardari positioned the PPP as the solution, vowing to double salaries in five years and combat inflation. He pledged Hari Card and Mazdoor Card issuance, mirroring the Benazir Income Support Programme.

Dismissing the notion of ‘selected rule,’ Bhutto-Zardari firmly stated that the public would not tolerate any conspiracies. He foresaw a choice between two or three parties during the election, with voters surprising those banking on specific quarters for victory.

Directing attention towards PTI and PML-N, he claimed that the leadership of PTI had focused on state institutions, while PML-N leaders faced allegations of mirroring the actions of PTI. Bhutto-Zardari confidently claimed people would give a fitting reply to both parties on Feb 8, ensuring PPP’s victory for “people’s rule” in Pakistan.

While in India, Bhutto-Zardari commended Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, a Hindu community representative who secured victory in Tharparkar. He emphasized the broad support Dr. Malani garnered from both Muslim and Hindu voters in the prior election.

In a gesture of unity, Bhutto-Zardari and PPP leaders joined Diwali celebrations at the Malani House, showcasing a diverse gathering of leaders from various backgrounds.
