Army Captain and Soldier Martyred in Northwest Pakistan Gunbattle with Militants

An intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Hassan Khel area of Peshawar district resulted in the tragic loss of two brave soldiers on Sunday.

The military’s media wing, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), reported that during the operation, five terrorists were neutralized.

The ISPR stated that security forces conducted the IBO upon receiving intelligence about terrorist presence in the area. They successfully engaged the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of five terrorists, while three others sustained injuries.

Sadly, during the exchange of fire, Captain Hussain Jahangir, aged 25, and Havildar Shafiqullah, aged 36, sacrificed their lives. Captain Jahangir was commended for leading his troops courageously from the front.

The ISPR mentioned that a sanitization operation is underway to ensure the complete elimination of any remaining terrorists in the area. It reiterated the resolve of Pakistan’s security forces to combat terrorism and praised the sacrifices made by their brave soldiers.

Captain Hussain Jahangir’s father, upon hearing of his son’s martyrdom, expressed profound pride and strength. He stated, “I would give a thousand sons for the love of my country and Allah.” He spoke highly of his son’s dedication, bravery, and love for his homeland.

The nation mourns the loss of Captain Hussain Jahangir, remembering him as a true patriot and a fearless defender of Pakistan.

This unfortunate incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region due to increased terrorist activities. Earlier, on May 14, an army officer lost his life during an IBO in Balochistan’s Zhob district.

Similarly, on April 18, unidentified gunmen attacked a team of Customs Intelligence officials in Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in the martyrdom of five officials and two civilians, including a five-year-old girl.

In another incident on April 13, two soldiers were martyred during an IBO in the Buner district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP). These incidents underscore the persistent threat posed by terrorism in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid tribute to the security forces for their successful operation in Peshawar’s Hassan Khel area. He praised their courage and reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism entirely.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, particularly from groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), especially in the western regions bordering Afghanistan.

The breakdown of a truce between the state and the TTP in November 2022 has led to increased hostilities.

The TTP, aiming to impose its strict interpretation of Islam, has carried out numerous deadly attacks against civilians and security forces since 2007.

This has strained relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with Pakistan accusing the Taliban of harboring TTP militants to launch attacks.

the sacrifices of Captain Hussain Jahangir, Havildar Shafiqullah, and other brave soldiers remind us of the ongoing struggle against terrorism. Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to defeating this menace and ensuring peace and security for its citizens.
