The event was attended by various dignitaries, including AJK Legislative Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar, cabinet members, senior government officials, political and social figures, as well as numerous citizens. At 8:52 AM, sirens sounded in memory of the victims, followed by a moment of silence. The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the memorial and offered prayers for the departed souls, with police and Rescue 1122 volunteers presenting a guard of honor.

Banners promoting disaster preparedness were displayed throughout the venue, and flags from countries, including the United Nations, that aided in relief efforts were hoisted.

In his address, PM Haq recalled the destruction of entire cities and towns in northern AJK, which left many residents without necessities. He expressed gratitude for the support received from the Pakistani government, military, and international community, highlighting the remarkable contributions of global organizations and NGOs during the recovery.

Emphasizing the importance of climate change awareness for future disaster preparedness, he pointed out that AJK ranks sixth among regions most affected by climate change, with increasing unseasonal rains and glacial lakes. He noted that despite a lower-than-average monsoon rainfall this year, the impact on life, property, and infrastructure was significant.

PM Haq stressed that while natural disasters cannot be entirely prevented, preparedness and foresight can mitigate their effects. He called for a commitment to environmental protection, including expanding forest cover and promoting afforestation.

The AJK Prime Minister reaffirmed his government’s dedication to establishing an effective disaster management structure, citing the formation of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) as a vital step. He shared that the AJK government is planning to extend emergency services across all subdivisions and tehsils to enhance public safety.
