What to Anticipate from Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max?

Apple’s highly anticipated ‘Wanderlust’ event on September 12 is right around the corner, and it’s no secret that the star of the show will be the new iPhone lineup. In the age of information, there aren’t many secrets left when it comes to smartphones, especially iPhones. Consequently, we already have a good grasp of what Apple has in store for us.

Anticipate the arrival of four new iPhones: the standard iPhone 15 and its larger counterpart, the iPhone 15 Plus, as well as two Pro models—the smaller iPhone 15 Pro and the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Typically, the Pro models are on par in terms of capabilities but differ in size. However, this year, the Pro Max stands out as the more advanced option, thanks to its periscope zoom lens.

In a move influenced by the European Union, Apple is finally catching up with the times by incorporating a universal USB-C port into the iPhone. This transition makes sense since most devices, including Apple’s own MacBooks and iPad Pros, now utilize USB-C ports. At this point, many iPhone owners probably have more USB-C cables lying around than Lightning ones.

Rumours suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro models could enjoy faster USB speeds compared to the standard models. There’s talk of the 15 Pro and Pro Max supporting USB 3.2 speeds and even potentially offering Thunderbolt support. This would mean that the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus would max out at USB 2.0 speeds of 480Mbps, while the Pros could achieve USB 3.2’s 20Gbps or even Thunderbolt’s impressive 40Gbps.

The Pro iPhone models will introduce a new titanium alloy for their chassis, replacing the stainless steel used in previous versions. Titanium boasts several advantages, including being stronger and significantly lighter. However, stainless steel has the advantage of being more resistant to scratches. The new titanium-clad iPhone Pro models might feature a brushed metal finish, departing from the mirrored finish seen on the current Pros.

For the standard iPhone 15 models, Apple will retain the A16 SoC from the previous year, while the Pro models will introduce the groundbreaking A17 chip. This chip is the first to be manufactured on a 3nm process, offering a notable 10% to 15% improvement in processing performance and up to 30% better energy efficiency.

Mark your calendars: Apple will unveil the iPhone 15 series on September 12, with pre-orders starting on September 15 and the initial launch in select countries on September 22. However, there is a chance that the iPhone 15 Pro Max release might be delayed until October due to supply chain challenges.
