UN Chief Expresses Deep Concern Over Significant Loss of Life in Gaza Hospitals: Spokesperson

In a press briefing on Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres voiced profound distress over the escalating loss of life in Gaza’s hospitals amid ongoing Israeli military actions.

Spokesman Stephane Dujarric, representing the Secretary-General, conveyed the gravity of the situation, stating, “The Secretary-General is deeply disturbed by the horrible situation and a dramatic loss of life in several hospitals in Gaza.”

Addressing the urgency of the matter, Dujarric emphasized, “In the name of humanity, the Secretary-General calls for an immediate cease-fire.”

He further revealed that Guterres is actively engaging with “a variety of interlocutors and his colleagues in the field” to address the crisis.

Recent Israeli airstrikes targeted the vicinity of Gaza’s primary medical facility, Al-Shifa.

The Israeli military claimed that Hamas operated an underground command center beneath the hospital, an assertion vehemently denied by the Palestinian resistance group.

Israel’s relentless air and ground assaults on the Gaza Strip since the cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7 have resulted in a staggering toll.

According to Palestinian authorities, over 11,240 Palestinians, including more than 7,800 women and children, have lost their lives, with over 29,200 others sustaining injuries.

The collateral damage extends beyond human casualties, with thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques, and churches, being damaged or destroyed in the Israeli offensive.

Contrastingly, official figures put the Israeli death toll at nearly 1,200.
