Pakistan’s Prime Minister Embarks on UAE Visit, Aiming to Boost Foreign Investment

Today, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a journey to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accompanied by a delegation of eminent officials.

This diplomatic mission aims to engage in discussions pertaining to bilateral relations, as well as explore opportunities for trade and investment. The Pakistani government is keen on attracting foreign investments as it navigates the intricate path towards economic recovery.

The PM’s visit comes amidst a flurry of high-profile engagements, with delegations from Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Japan, and Qatar converging on Pakistan in recent weeks to explore avenues for collaboration in key economic sectors.

During his sojourn, PM Shehbaz is slated to convene with UAE’s President and Abu Dhabi’s Ruler, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. The agenda will primarily focus on bolstering bilateral ties, particularly in the realms of trade and investment.

Furthermore, Prime minister Shehbaz is anticipated to engage in discussions with other prominent Emirati figures, entrepreneurs, and leaders of financial institutions. The enduring camaraderie between Pakistan and the UAE is deeply rooted in shared religious and cultural affinities.

Regular high-level exchanges underscore the fraternal bond between the two nations. Last year, on November 27th, President Sheikh Mohamed extended a warm welcome to the former Pakistani Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting underscored the commitment to fostering cooperation between the UAE and Pakistan, particularly in areas such as investment and food security, aimed at driving sustainable development and mutual prosperity.

The discussions also touched upon regional and international issues of mutual concern, including developments in the Middle East and the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
In an earlier visit in 2023, PM Shehbaz Sharif arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport on January 12th, where he was received by Abdullah Touq Al Marri, the UAE’s Minister of Economy, and senior officials from the Pakistani Embassy.

This visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening the multifaceted bilateral collaboration between Pakistan and the united arab emirates. UAE’s Consul General in Karachi, Bakheet Ateeq Al-Remeithi, remarked on April 18th that Pakistanis have played a pivotal role in Dubai’s development.

Speaking at the inauguration of an Arabic language center in the government vocational training institute in the Buffer Zone area, Al-Remeithi emphasized the importance of Pakistani expatriates and their contribution to various sectors.

He reassured students of the vocational center about job opportunities in the UAE and urged them to disregard any anti-national content on social media. The Prime minister’s visit marks an important stride towards further enhancing the multifaceted bilateral collaboration between Pakistan and the UAE.

The UAE stands as Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, following China and the United States. Pakistani policymakers view the Gulf state as an ideal export destination due to its geographical proximity, which reduces transportation costs and facilitates commercial transactions.

Additionally, with over a million Pakistani expatriates residing in the UAE, it serves as a significant source of remittances, second only to Saudi Arabia.
