Afghanistan was struck by twin earthquakes killing at least 22 people

West of Afghanistan had been hit by back-to-back twin earthquakes on Monday 17 January 2022. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the first earthquake at 2 p.m. with a magnitude of 5.3 while the second quake which hit at 4 p.m., was recorded to be the magnitude of 4.9. Both quakes affected the northwest province of Badghis and hit about 50km (31mi) from Qala-e-Naw, the capital of the province.
A spokesman declared to AFP that 22 people had died including 4 children among them.  more than 700 houses had been destroyed and had caused significant damage in Afghanistan where buildings were not stable and well-built.
First Earthquake struck in the afternoon while the second followed it after 2 hours creating its impact in Qadis and Mugr districts.
