A huge black diamond from space is officially going on sale

A black diamond which was believed to come from space and weighed 555.55 carats is going on sale. This beautiful and out-of-this-world black diamond has been revealed by auction house Sotheby’s Dubai. Sotheby’s has dubbed this rare gem as “The Enigma” and believes that it has either been fashioned from a meteoric impact or is from a “diamond-bearing” asteroid that bumped with Earth.

It is also known as Carbonado Diamonds, is estimated to date between 2.6 to 3.8 billion years ago. While it has been discovered that it holds trace amounts of nitrogen and hydrogen, the elements of interstellar space. It also contains osbornite, a mineral found in meteorites.

This black diamond has been called “a true natural phenomenon” by Nikita Binani, a jewellery specialist at Sotheby’s in London. While being speaking to a Press release on Monday, she said, “Its sale represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the rarest, billion-year-old cosmic wonders known to humankind,”
