K-P Assembly Urges Release of Imran Khan, Opposes PTI Ban Proposal

In an assembly session led by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Law Minister Aftab Alam introduced a resolution advocating for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan. The resolution referenced a United Nations General Assembly Human Rights Committee report, which indicated that the legal actions against Imran Khan and his associates violated laws. The K-P Assembly, in response to the UN report, called for Imran Khan’s release, and the resolution was approved.

Following this, Aftab Alam presented another resolution addressing the potential ban on PTI. This resolution pointed out that the recent Supreme Court ruling recognized PTI as the country’s largest party and recommended that PTI be allocated specific seats. It further noted that despite this ruling, the federal cabinet was considering a ban on PTI, which the resolution argued would infringe upon Article 17 of the Constitution, which guarantees the freedom to form political parties. The resolution affirmed PTI’s commitment to challenge any such ban both legally and publicly. The K-P Assembly then passed the resolution opposing the PTI ban.
