Police Detain Imran Khan in Connection with Multiple May 9 Incidents

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has obtained an eight-day remand of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a fresh Toshakhana case, while the Lahore police have also taken him into custody in connection with twelve cases, including the attack on the Corps Commander House during the May 9 riots.

Due to security concerns, Imran Khan will not be transferred to Lahore for interrogation but will instead appear via video link before an anti-terrorism court today (Monday). The Lahore police’s 13-member investigation team visited Adiala Jail on Saturday to question Khan about the May 9 violence, which erupted following his arrest from the Islamabad High Court.

Sources indicate that Khan declined to meet with the Lahore police team seeking to interrogate him on the various charges related to inciting public unrest.

Lahore’s Investigation DIG Zeeshan Asghar stated that Khan was arrested as the prime suspect in twelve cases registered across various police stations in the city. Among these cases, those involving attacks on the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence and Askari Tower are under heightened scrutiny.

Investigations into these incidents are being led by a joint investigation team (JIT) and senior police officials, underscoring the seriousness with which these allegations are being pursued.

Meanwhile, an Islamabad accountability court has granted NAB custody of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi for eight days in the Toshakhana case. Despite being acquitted in an Iddat case, fresh arrest orders have prevented their release. Additionally, PTI activist Sanam Javed was rearrested by Islamabad police after a brief period of release, following a prolonged period of what she describes as “illegal detention.”

These developments underscore a complex legal and political landscape surrounding the former prime minister and associated figures.
