PTA and TikTok Collaborate to Enhance Digital Safety in Schools

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and TikTok have joined hands to ensure digital safety in government schools across Pakistan. They formalized this commitment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday.

This program aims to promote digital safety through various means, including comprehensive training programs and guidelines for teachers, parents, and students. These will be delivered through workshops, seminars, webinars, and awareness videos. The goal is to educate people about the responsible use of social media and address associated risks.

Key figures at this event included Chairman PTA, Maj Gen (retd) Hafeezur Rehman, Director General (WAD), Director General (S&D), and representatives from MoITT. Representatives from TikTok, including Fahad Khan Niazi (Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, Pakistan) and Zara Basharat Higgs (Head of Public Policy Programmes in South Asia), were also present.

Chairman PTA emphasized the authority’s unwavering commitment to digital safety. The collaboration with TikTok, a prominent social media platform, reflects PTA’s dedication to creating a safer online environment. Both organizations share a vision of prioritizing safety in the digital space.

This initiative is expected to set a precedent for other social media platforms to partner with PTA and contribute to enhancing the local digital environment. The PTA chairman welcomed the delegation, listened to their concerns, and highlighted ongoing efforts to review internet service provisions and support the cable industry within legal frameworks.

In summary, the PTA and TikTok are working together to ensure a secure and safe online environment, especially for students. Their partnership signifies a shared commitment to prioritizing safety in the digital sphere, with the hope that other social media platforms will follow suit in collaborating with the authority for the betterment of the local digital landscape.
