Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister to be Finalized Today: Shahbaz Sharif

In a recent development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Islamabad has announced that consultations are actively underway to finalize a candidate for the role of caretaker prime minister. During a discussion with a delegation of journalists, he emphasized that there is no hesitation in reaching a decision regarding the interim prime minister.

Responding to inquiries about the president’s letter concerning the appointment of the caretaker prime minister, Sharif expressed his perplexity and stated that he struggled to comprehend its content. He urged the president to familiarize himself with the constitution and adhere to its stipulations.

Addressing a range of crucial topics during the meeting, the premier conveyed his thoughts and intentions on significant matters concerning the nation. As per the constitutional timeline, the incumbent prime minister and the outgoing opposition leader in the National Assembly have a three-day window to agree upon the interim prime minister’s name.

Despite the outgoing government’s apparent inability to designate the caretaker prime minister, who would oversee the interim administration until the general elections – likely postponed due to the pending census notification – Prime Minister Shehbaz will assume the responsibilities of the caretaker prime minister.

Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif remarked on international agreements, particularly emphasizing the significance of the finalized IMF deal. He underscored that had this agreement not been reached, the country would have faced a period of instability. He recounted the tense and uncertain negotiations with the IMF, highlighting the challenges they entailed.

Regarding diplomatic relations, Sharif attributed strained ties with the United States to the previous administration’s policies. Nonetheless, he expressed his dedication to restoring and enhancing diplomatic relationships with all countries, particularly those deemed friendly nations.

In essence, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks shed light on the ongoing efforts to determine a caretaker prime minister, underscored the importance of international agreements, and highlighted his commitment to repairing diplomatic bonds with global partners.
