India took control of the first Test against Bangladesh, extending their lead to 308 runs after fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah played a key role in dismissing the visitors for 149 on day two in Chennai.

At stumps, India was 81-3 in their second innings, with Shubman Gill (33) and Rishabh Pant (12) at the crease. Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed struck early to remove captain Rohit Sharma for five, while Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) and Virat Kohli (17), respectively.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s innings was wrapped up in the final session. Former captain Shakib Al Hasan top-scored with 32 in response to India’s first-innings total of 376, powered by Ravichandran Ashwin’s impressive 113 and Ravindra Jadeja’s 86.

India’s bowlers were in top form, with Bumrah taking four wickets, Akash Deep grabbing two key scalps, and Mohammed Siraj contributing with two wickets as well. Jadeja also chipped in with two dismissals, helping India restrict Bangladesh to a modest total.

Despite a 227-run lead, India opted not to enforce the follow-on, seeking to build an even more commanding target for Bangladesh.

Taskin Ahmed was the standout performer for Bangladesh in India’s first innings, taking 3-55, while Hasan Mahmud registered an impressive 5-83.

With two days of play left, India remains firmly in the driver’s seat, looking to extend their dominance and press for a victory.
