PML-N and PPP Discuss Power-Sharing Agreement

The PML-N and PPP coordination committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow (Sunday) at the Punjab Governor’s House in Lahore to resolve differences between the two parties and address issues related to their power-sharing agreement. The meeting, originally planned for 3 pm on Friday, has been postponed.

The PML-N delegation will include Ishaq Dar, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Malik Ahmed Khan. At the same time, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Hasan Murtaza, and Ali Haider Gilani will represent the PPP. The agenda will cover the implementation of the power-sharing deal negotiated after the February 8 general elections, with a focus on addressing PPP’s concerns and establishing a timeline for remaining issues.

This meeting follows a recent discussion on Thursday between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. During their conversation, Bilawal voiced disappointment over the slow progress in implementing the agreement and the challenges faced by the PPP in Punjab, where the PML-N is in power. He expressed frustration over the lack of consultation on key issues, which he believes is straining their alliance.

Bilawal also raised concerns about inflation and disparities in relief measures, noting that relief is being provided to consumers only in Punjab while the rest of the country suffers from high power bills. He emphasized the need for the federal government to address these national issues more effectively.

According to PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri, the party has repeatedly expressed its concerns about being sidelined on critical issues, including the budget and provincial matters. She criticized the PML-N for neglecting the PPP during budget preparation and not addressing agreed-upon issues related to Punjab, which she claims violates the agreement made post-elections. Marri emphasized that non-consultation has become a significant point of contention between the two parties.
